Hugh Cross served with the Royal Engineers during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 October 1915.

Sold with a British Red Cross Society Medal for War Service 1914-18; a Handsworth Urban District Council Commemorative Medal for the Coronation of George V and Queen Mary 1911, bronze; a Hampton Court Palace Medallion commemorating the reign of Elizabeth I; a Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs Bell Medal, bronze, unnamed as issued; an Ulster Unionist lapel badge, bronze and enamel; and a silver Maltese Cross, the obverse engraved ‘From Trustees of D.S. No. 4 Castleton S.I. 1889’, the reverse engraved ‘Matthew Donegan’.
