Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Belmont, Modder River, Driefontein, Belfast (6805 Pte. T. Chandler, Gren: Gds:) light contact marks, good very fine £120-£160

Thomas Chandler was born in Battersea, London, in 1875, and attested for the Grenadier Guards at Horse Guards, Whitehall, on 27 August 1897, having previously served in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment from 20 November 1895 to 22 April 1896. He served with the 3rd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 26 October 1899 to 21 July 1902 (also entitled to the King’s South Africa Medal with both date clasps), before transferring to the Army Reserve on 7 October 1902. He was discharged on 26 August 1909, after 12 years’ service.
