India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, North West Frontier, Umbeyla (3853 W. Taylor H.M. 93rd. Highrs.) edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine and an extremely rare clasp combination to the Regiment £300-£400

Approximately 6 ‘North West Frontier’ clasps awarded to the 93rd Highlanders.

William Taylor was born in Fochabers, Banffshire, in 1838 and attested for the 93rd Highlanders at Fort George on 12 February 1856. Proceeding to India, he saw service during the Great Sepoy Mutiny, being present at the Second Relief of Lucknow and subsequent operations. He saw later service on the North West Frontier, and during the Umbeyla campaign, October to December 1863. Promoted Corporal on 28 March 1870, and Sergeant on 1 March 1871, he was reduced back to Private on 4 November of that year. He was discharged on 24 April 1877, after 21 years and 45 days’ service, of which 12 years and 10 months were spent in India.
