George Haldane was born in Glasgow. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 10 August 1914 (entitled to 1914 Star and clasp).

Haldane subsequently transferred to the 10th Battalion, and died of wounds, 19 October 1918. Private Haldane is buried in Glasgow (Lambhill) Cemetery.
