Lance-Naik Mahomed Issra is mentioned in Tugwell’s History of the Bombay Pioneers as one of five recipients of immediate awards of the I.D.S.M. to the 128th Pioneers, for gallantry at the successful forced crossing of the River Tigris at Shumran Bend on 12 February 1917, against heavy Turkish opposition.
