M.M. London Gazette 9 November 1944. The recommendation states:

‘Captured at Tobruk on 21 June 1942, Dixon was sent via Benghazi and Lucca to Macerata (Camp 53).

He left Camp 53 after the Armistice as the sentries had deserted, but was captured by the Germans while attempting to get away by sea from Cupra Marittima. He was imprisoned at Monturano but escaped by cutting the wire when Allied aircraft attacked the nearby road and station. After an attempt to get to Allied lines, Dixon was recaptured by Fascists. Although fired upon, he made good his escape after jumping out of a window. Trying to pass the German lines on 3 June 1944, he was apprehended but escaped at Guilanova on 13 June 1944. Two days later he met British troops.’

William Henry Reginald Dixon was serving in 906 Company (G.T.), R.A.S.C. at the time of his capture in June 1942.
