Edward McPoland, who was born in October 1884 and first commissioned in January 1928, was serving as a Major (Commissary) and Officer Supervisor at the Military Secretary’s Branch, Army Headquarters, India, at the time of being awarded the O.B.E. He was advanced to Lieutenant-Colonel in November 1936 and retired in September 1938. India Army Lists confirm his earlier service in Mohmand Country on the North West Frontier in 1908.
