Five: Lieutenant E. R. Main, South African Air Force

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Africa Service Medal, all officially inscribed ‘205884 E. R. Main’, mounted as worn, very fine or better, the Atlantic Star rare to the S.A.A.F. (5) £60-80

Eric Roland Main, who was born in April 1917, enlisted in the South African Air Force in January 1941, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in May 1942 and trained as a pilot at several Air Schools prior to being posted to No. 8 Wing in the Middle East in September 1944. Subsequent appointments included a period of attachment to the R.A.F. and service with No. 4 Group, his entitlement to the Atlantic Star being confirmed by official records. Main was finally discharged in June 1946.
