Cecil William Montagu Smith, who was born in November 1896, originally served as a Private in the Inns of Court O.T.C. Commissioned into the 2nd Battalion, Manchester Regiment, which unit he joined in the Field in February 1917, he was wounded in April of the same year and evacuated to the U.K. via Rouen. Smith was next appointed a Lieutenant in the 3rd King’s African Rifles and finally relinquished his commission in November 1922.
