Three: Flight Sergeant E. J. Farley, Royal Air Force, late Royal Flying Corps

Ernest James Farley was born near Tiverton, Devon and enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps, Military Wing at Cardiff in October 1913, aged 20 years. Appointed an Air Mechanic 1, he was posted to No. 4 Squadron in France in September 1914, and remained with the same unit for most of the War, gaining advancement to Flight Sergeant (Rigger) in March 1917 and latterly to Chief Mechanic (Rigger, aero) in the newly formed Royal Air Force. He was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre on 1 May 1917 and, according to his service record, the Silver War Badge. Farley returned home from France in June 1918 and would appear to have been discharged in March 1919.
