The mounted group of five miniature dress medals attributed to Major J. G. O. Aplin, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, Order of St. Michael & St. George, gold and enamel,straight bar suspension, with gold buckle on ribbon; Ashanti Star; East & West Africa, 1 clasp, 1897-98; Ashanti 1900, no clasp; Africa General Service, 1 clasp, Aro 1901-1902, mounted as worn, slight contact marks, good very fine (5) £140-180

Major John George Orlebar Aplin was the son of Major-General J. G. R. Aplin (see lot 988). An officer of the 3rd battalion D.C.L.I. he was employed by the West African Frontier Force. Late Inspector-General of Lagos Hausas, he served in West Africa 1897-98 and was mentioned in despatches, in the Ashanti War 1900 where he was slightly wounded and in S. Nigeria 1901-02. He was created a C.M.G. in 1899. He retired from the Army in 1904 and died in 1915.
