Street, C.B., 57th late 98th Regiment, Order of the Bath, Military Division, silver-gilt and enamel; Crimea, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol; Turkey, Order of Medjidie, silver, gold and enamel; Sardinia, Al Valore Militare, silver, reverse embossed, ‘Spedizione d’Oriente 1855 1856’; Turkish Crimea, Sardinian die, unmounted, without ribbons, fine and better (5) £100-140

John Alfred Street entered the Army as an Ensign in 1839 and was promoted Lieutenant in 1841, Captain in 1848, Major in 1854, Lieutenant-Colonel in 1855 and Colonel in 1858. He served with the 98th Regiment in the China Campaign of 1842 and was present at the capture of Chin Kiang Foo and at the landing at Nankin. In the Crimea War, with the 57th Regiment, he served as Brigade Major of the 1st Brigade, 4th Division and was present at the battles of Balaklava and Inkermann, the siege and fall of Sebastopol and the expedition to Kinbourn. For his services he was created a C.B., received the brevet of Major and was awarded the Sardinian Medal of Valour and the Order of Medjidie 4th Class.
