The group of three miniature dress medals named to Major-General Sir James Holmes Schoedde, K.C.B., 60th Foot, Order of the Bath, Military Division, 17 x 17mm., gold and enamel, straight bar suspension, with gold buckle by Hunt & Roskell on ribbon; Military General Service, 14 engraved clasps, Egypt, Roleia, Vimiera, Talavera, Busaco, Fuentes d’Onor, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse, a contemporary struck piece, the disc being set into a separate mount; China 1842, edge inscribed, ‘Majr. Genl. Sir James Holmes Schoedde, K.C.B.’, straight-bar swivel suspension, with silver buckle on ribbon, contemporary ribbons, in contemporary fitted leather case, good very fine and rare (3) £1200-1500

Sir James Holmes Schoedde was awarded the Field Officer’s Gold Medal for Nivelle and the M.G.S. with 14 clasps for his services in Egypt and the Peninsula War. He was created a C.B. in 1831. In the China Campaign of 1842 he commanded a brigade and was present at the attack and capture of Chapoo, Woosung, Shanghai and Chin Kiang Foo. For his services in China he was mentioned despatches, his name was included in a vote of thanks from both Houses of Parliament and he was created a K.C.B.
