Worshipful Company of Turners Medal, 32mm., silver base medal, reverse inscribed, ‘Sir E. B. Rowcroft, Freedom by Presentation 1943’, mounted as worn, very fine; together with a miniature portrait of the recipient in military uniform, 78 x 65mm., glazed, within a gilt frame, this in very good condition (2) £40-50

Major-General Sir Eric Bertram Rowcroft, K.B.E., C.B., was born 1891 and educated at Haileybury College. In the ranks of the Royal Engineers (T.A.) 1908-09, he attended the R.M.C. Sandhurst during 1910-11. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Service Corps in 1911, he attained the rank of Major-General in 1943. He served in the Great War and in Palestine during 1936, for both he was mentioned in despatches. He held the posts of Inspector of Tanks 1932-36, Deputy Director of Supplies and Transport at the War Office 1939-42 and Director of Mechanical Engineering at the War Office 1942-46. He retired in 1947 and died in 1963.
