James Drewett was born at Bronham, Newburn in Berkshire in 1833 and enlisted into the 1st battalion 60th Foot in 1855. He served with them in the Indian Mutiny and received the Medal without clasp. In 1860 he transferred to the 2nd battalion Rifle Brigade and served with them in the Ashantee war of 1873-74 and received the Medal with clasp for Coomassie. He transferred to the 3rd battalion in 1874. On 1.8.1976 he was awarded the Army L.S.& G.C. with a gratuity of £5. Drewett was discharged at his own request in 1877. Sold with copied service papers.
