Coronation 1953, the edge officially impressed ‘Mount Everest Expedition’, polished, otherwise about very fine and very rare £300-400

Only 37 medals were issued to the expedition members who successfully conquered Mount Everest, the news of which was received on Coronation Day, 1953. Sold with a copy of Man of Everest, the autobiography of Sherpa Tenzing, and a letter of provenance from the vendor who purchased this medal in Kathmandu in 1985. This is believed to be only the second example to appear on the market, the first (an attributed award) having been sold in these rooms in April 1994 (Lot 250, £640).
