Richard Henry Maunsell-Eyre was born in Ireland on 28 February 1898. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Royal Munster Fusiliers on 26 April 1917, and promoted to Lieutenant on 26 October 1918. He relinquished his commission on 2 April 1920 and joined the Royal Irish Constabulary as a District Inspector the same year. On 1 April 1925 he was appointed an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Nigeria, and Commissioner of Police in 1934. Strangely, he was appointed in 1937 Superintendent of Police in Nigeria, and on 2 September 1939, again Superintendent of Police in Nigeria.

After service during the Second World War, he was appointed Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police and, as Superintendent was awarded the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service in June 1949. Maunsell-Eyre retired that same year on 7 October on pension. He died at Dalkey, Co. Dublin, on 29 May 1966, aged 68. Sold with full research.
