King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (1225 Pte. J. Simpson, C.T. Highrs.) about very fine £30-40

Simpson was wounded at Jacobsdal on 25 October 1900.

During the Boer War, the Cape Town Highlanders were only engaged in one action of any note, when one of their outposts, also manned by men of the Cape Field Artillery, was taken by surprise at Jacobsdal on 25 October 1900. The Boer attack was held off from dawn, when it was launched, until mid afternoon when reinforcements arrived. A full account of the action is to be found in Neil Orpen’s
The Cape Town Highlanders 1885-1970.
