The Royal Scots, 5th Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1887-1901, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the very fine frontal plate of crowned star pattern overlaid with the Star of the Order of the Thistle, in the centre in gilt metal the pierced motto ‘Nemo Me Impune Lacessit’ enclosing a thistle head and two thistle sprays also in gilt this on a ground of dark green velvet (worn), double scroll below ‘The Royal Scots’ ‘5th Volunteer Battalion’, white leather sweatband with crimson silk lining (part detached), the plate is not original to the helmet, very fine overall condition £500-600
