A uniface silver presentation shield, engraved ‘Presented to Captain B. Moutray-Read by his brother officers of the Northern Territories of the Gold Coast Colony on the occasion of his Marriage, October 7th 1911’, 70mm x 68mm, good condition £50-£70

Beresford Moutray-Read (1874-1936), Provincial Commissioner of the Gold Coast Colony, married Miss Henrietta Taylor at St Michael’s, Horton, Berkshire, on 7 October 1911. His younger brother, Captain Anketell Moutray-Read (1884-1915), served during the Great War with the Northamptonshire Regiment, and was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross.
