M.I.D. London Gazette 28 November 1944:
‘For gallantry, skill, determination, and devotion to duty during the landing of Allied Forces on the coast of Normandy.’

Jack Schooley was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and served during the Second World War in the Minesweeper H.M.S. Linnet. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 20 October 1942, and was Mentioned in Despatches for his role in the D-Day Landings: most likely he was involved in sweeping the channel for mines prior to the invasion proceeding. He died in Portsmouth in December 1982.
