Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue, coinage head (J.93169 D. D. Brown. L.S. H.M.S. Salmon.) good very fine £80-£120

Douglas Dundonald Brown was born in Brighton, Sussex, on 29 August 1902, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 10 September 1918. He was advanced Ordinary Seaman on 29 August 1920, and was promoted Able Seaman on 31 March 1921, and Leading Seaman on 10 July 1926. Transferring to the Submarine Service, he served in H.M. Submarine Repulse from 11 March 1931, and in H.M. Submarine Salmon from 1 April 1935. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 27 September 1935. He served during the Second World War in the Corvette H.M.S. Abelia, on minesweeping duties, from 27 March 1941, and was invalided out of the Royal Navy on 27 July 1943.
