George Butler Daniels was born in Westminster, London, and attested for the East India Company at the city of his birth in August 1844. He was posted to the 2nd European Light Infantry, and was present during the Indian Mutiny (entitled to medal with ‘Central India’ clasp). Daniels transferred to the 106th Foot in 1862, and was discharged the following year.
