Henry Nicholas O’Brien was born in Sheerness, Kent, in 1847. He attested for the Rifle Brigade as a Boy at Westminster in September 1860. Initially serving as a Bugler, O’Brien was promoted Corporal in October 1873. He advanced to Colour Sergeant in February 1878, and was awarded the L.S. & G.C. in February 1882. O’Brien was discharged, 19 April 1887, having served 26 years and 215 days with the Colours.
