Vernon Charles Day was born on 28 March 1933 and attested for National Service at Mill Hill on 21 June 1951. He served with the Durham Light Infantry in Korea, before transferring to the 4/5th Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (Territorial Army) on 6 July 1953.
