Charles Henry Castle was born in Kent and served with the South African Medical Corps during the Great War. He transferred to the 3rd South African Infantry on 21 October 1916, and served with them on the Western Front from 4 March 1917. He was killed in action on 4 August 1917, and is buried in Metz-en-Couture Communal Cemetery British Extension, France.
