Malcolm McRae was the eldest son of Malcolm McRae of Brooks Road, Cardross, Dumbartonshire. He served during the Great War with the 1/9th (The Dumbartonshire) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Western Front. McRae is listed in Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919 as being killed in action on the Western Front, 25 April 1916. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission erroneously list the spelling of his surname as ‘MacRae’ on his gravestone, as well as listing his death due to ‘accidental injuries’ 23 April 1916.

Corporal McRae is buried in the St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.

Alexander McRae was the younger brother of the above. He served during the Great War with ‘A’ Company 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Western Front. He was killed in action on the Western Front, 24 April 1917.

Private McRae is buried in Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, Pas-de-Calais, France
