Edward Evans was born at Wantage, Berkshire, on 17 May 1883, and enlisted for the Royal Marines in London on 3 February 1903, being posted to the Portsmouth Division on 17 December 1903. He was embarked aboard the dreadnought battleship Conqueror from December 1914 until March 1919, seeing action at the battle of Jutland. He was discharged on 2 February 1924, on termination of his second period of engagement, and died on 30 November 1962.
