T.D. London Gazette 5 May 1925.

Geoffrey Pottinger Daniels was born in Hampstead, Middlesex, on 10 April 1887 and was educated at Highgate School, before being commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery. He served with the 125th Battery during the Great War in Aden from 1916 (not entitled to a Star), and was Mentioned in Despatches ‘for distinguished services rendered in connection with military operations in Aden during the period 1 September to 31 December 1918’ (London Gazette 20 December 1919). Post-War he was employed as Commanding Officer of the Officer Training Corps at Dean Close School from 1922, and whilst there he was awarded the Territorial Decoration.

Whilst in Cheltenham, he took an interest in the Air Training Corps, and following the outbreak of the Second World War was granted a commission as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force on 4 July 1940, being promoted Flying Officer on 20 February 1941 and Flight Lieutenant on 12 July 1942. He relinquished his commission on being appointed to the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 18 January 1944, and served for the rest of the War in ‘Squid’ operations - an ‘ahead-throwing anti-submarine weapon’ that was operated by craft stationed at Southampton. He was thus one of that rare group of officers to have been members of all three Services.

Post-War Daniels moved to Hereford, and was employed as Commanding Officer of the Combined Cadet Force at Hereford Cathedral School, from October 1949. He retired on 10 April 1952.

Sold with copied Medal Index Card; various photographic images pertaining to the Dean Close School O.T.C. Inspection of 1929 which include the recipient; and various copied research.
