Frederick Chester served with the Royal Engineers during the Great War on the Western Front from 20 May 1915. Transferring to Class ‘Z’ Reserve upon the cessation of hostilities, he subsequently joined the Royal Signals, and served with them on the North West Frontier of India and in pre-Second War Palestine.
