David Stirling Buist was born at Perth on 7 September 1884, and was educated at the University of Edinburgh, Perth Academy, MB ChB Ed 1907. He entered the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Lieutenant on 1 August 1908, and was promoted to Captain on 1 February 1912. He served in India 1911-13, and was seconded to the Egyptian Army 1913-20. He entered the war in Gallipoli, September to December 1915, and afterwards in the Sudan operations including Mongalla 1915-16 and Nyima 1917-18. Promoted to Major, 1 August 1920, he served in India 1924-28. He was placed on half-pay due to ill-health, 23 April 1929, and retired pay on 12 October 1929.
Sold with copied m.i.c. which confirms entitlement to Sudan Medal with clasps for Mongalla 1915-16 and Nyima 1917-18, the latter issued separately.
