Estimate: £70–£90

Three: Gunner John Daniels, Royal Field Artillery

1914 Star (78098 Gnr: D. John [sic]. R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals (78098 Gnr. J. Daniels. R.A.) good very fine (3) £70-£90

John Daniels served with the 23rd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery during the Great War on the Western Front from 19 August 1914, and was discharged on 4 January 1919, receiving a Silver War Badge.

Sold with copied Medal Index Cards, one for the 1914 Star only, named to ‘Gnr 78098 D. John’; and the other for the British War and Victory Medals, named to ‘Gnr 78098 John Daniels’. Given the fact that the service numbers are the same, and that the medals are together, it is likely that an error was made by the clerk when compiling the roll for the 1914 Star, and that the recipient’s Christian name and surname got mixed-up.
