Thomas Silverwood was born in 1871 and attested for the Kaffrarian Rifles in January 1900. He served with them for 20 months before transferring to the Queenstown Mounted Infantry in September 1901, and then to the Special Squadron, Steinaecker’s Horse on 20 February 1902. He was discharged at Pretoria on 15 July 1902 on the disbandment of the Squadron.
