Arthur Wilkins served with No. 1 Mountain Battery, Royal Artillery as part of the Hazara Field Force under Major-General W. K. Ellis, in the operations against the Hussanzais and the Akazais in the Black Mountains in 1891, and subsequently with the Tirah Expeditionary Force under Lieutenant-General Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98.
