South Africa 1877-79, no clasp (14683. Driv: H. Carter. R.E.); Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (14683. Driv: H. Carter. R.E.); Khedive’s Star 1882, unnamed as issued, light pitting and minor edge bruise to first, otherwise good very fine (3) £500-£700

Henry Carter was born in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, in 1859 and attested for the Royal Engineers at Bury St. Edmunds on 9 March 1878, having previously served in the Cambridge Militia. He served with the Royal Engineers in South Africa from 3 April 1879 to 27 January 1880, and is Egypt from 5 August to 5 November 1882, and was present at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir, 13 September 1882. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 30 April 1884, and was discharged on 8 March 1890, after 12 years’ service.
