Three: Regimental Sergeant Major C. Christie, 42nd Foot

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Sebastopol (Cr. Serjt. Chas. Christie 42nd Royal Highlanders) contemporary engraved naming in the distinctive regimental style; France, Second Empire, Legion of Honour, Chevalier’s breast badge, silver, gold appliqué, and enamel, silver mark to suspension ring, significant blue enamel damage to mottos around central medallions, and white enamel damage to tips of points of cross; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (1480 C. Christie 42nd Rt. St. Major 23 D. Bn.) contemporary engraved naming, plugged, with Crimea style suspension, generally very fine unless otherwise stated (3) £600-£800

Charles Christie was born in Gibraltar, and attested as a Boy for the 42nd Foot at Dublin in May 1841. The following month he was appointed a Drummer, and advanced to Corporal in October 1847. Christie was promoted Sergeant in June 1850, and Sergeant Major D Battalion in November 1856. He was discharged, 16 June 1866, having served 21 years and 54 days with the Colours.
