Sidney G. Davis was a native of Clevedon. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry in the French theatre of war from 11 November 1914. Davis transferred to the Gloucestershire Regiment in November of the following year, and subsequently served with the 4th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry.

Albert Victor Coles was a native of Clevedon. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry in the French theatre of war from 11 November 1914. Davis transferred to the Gloucestershire Regiment in November of the following year, and subsequently served with the 4th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry.

Davis and Coles were related, presumably by marriage, and both lived in the same house in Kenn Road, Clevedon. They had a virtually identical service record, and after the war were both active members of the Clevedon branch of the Mons Club. They were both in the organisation Comrades of the Great War, which was later to become The Royal British Legion.
