Three: Sergeant Major W. Hood, Royal Artillery

India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89 (20396 Corpl. W. Hood. No. 1 By. 1st Bde. E. Dn. R.A.) unofficial retaining rod between clasps, suspension slack; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (20396. C.S. Maj. W. Hood. R.A.); Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (C.S.M. W. Hood. R.A.) mounted for display, contact marks to first, otherwise generally very fine (3) £300-£340

William Hood was born in Woolwich in 1862. He attested for the Royal Artillery as a Boy Trumpeter in July 1877. Hood advanced to Sergeant in April 1887, and to Company Sergeant Major in December 1893. He transferred as Drill Instructor to the Clevedon Artillery Volunteers in 1893 (was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in 1896).

Hood was discharged from the 9th Clevedon Company, 1st Gloucestershire Artillery Volunteers, 30 April 1906. Having served for 28 years and 299 days, Hood was awarded the M.S.M. with annuity in 1929. He died in Tooting Beck, London, in March 1948.
