Peter Kenneth Llewellyn Fry was born in Clevedon, in October 1904, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel P. G. Fry, C.M.G., D.S.O., T.D. Fry joined the Royal Navy as a Midshipman in September 1923, and underwent training as a Engineer. He advanced to Sub-Lieutenant (E) in November 1925, and to Lieutenant (E) in December the following year. He undertook multiple pre-war appointments at Chatham, including experimental work on the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Ark Royal in 1933.

Fry advanced to Commander (E) in December 1938 and was posted to H.M.S. President. He was appointed a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, 21 May 1951, and retired in February 1953. Commander Fry died in 1977.

Sold with the following original documentation: M.I.D. Certificate, dated 2 June 1943; Letter of commendation from the Admiral Superintendent, Chatham, for recipient’s experimental work on H.M.S. Ark Royal, dated 12 August 1933; Admiralty Letter informing recipient that he is to be appointed O.B.E., dated 1 January 1953; two portrait photographs of recipient in uniform; and other Central Chancery documentation.
