Mrs. Annie Farrar was born in Bristol in 1857, and married Stephen Farrar in 1881. For her services during the Great War she was awarded the Russian Red Cross Medal. The original notification letter from the Imperial Russian Vice Consulate at Bristol (included with the lot), dated 9 November 1916, states:
‘Mrs. A. Farrar, Weston Street, Barton Hill. Dear Madam, it is with much pleasure that I write to inform you that Her Imperial Majesty the Empress has chosen you to receive one of the Russian Red Cross Insignia, in recognition of your past and present work on behalf of the wounded Russian soldiers, in connection with the C.C. Emblem Days, and the badge will be presented to you in due course.’

Alfred Farrar, the son of Stephen and Annie Farrar, was born in Bristol in 1895, and served during the Great War in the Mercantile Marine.
