Henry George Swain was born in Clerkenwell, London, in 1893 and attested for the Army Service Corps in London on 9 August 1914. He served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 September 1914 (Service papers refer, although his Medal Index Card gives the date of 15 August 1914).
