Frederick William Chilcott was born on 1 February 1874, and joined the Navy as a Boy 2nd class on 19 November 1889. He served aboard Goliath as a Leading Seaman and later Petty Officer from March 1900 to October 1903, including operations in China. He advanced to Petty Officer 1st class in March 1902 and continued serving until discharged to ‘Shore Pension’ on 8 February 1914, joining the Royal Fleet Reserve on the same day. He was finally invalided out on 5 January 1916. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal in January 1910 and mentioned in despatches on 14 January 1916 (Minesweeping). Sold with copied record of service.
