Frederick George Mitchell served with the ‘C’ Squadron, Protectorate Regiment Frontier Force during the Boer War from 11 October 1899 to 18 October 1900, where he was present at the Defence of Mafeking, 13 October 1899 to 17 May 1900. He subsequently served with the Prince of Wales’ Light Horse from 14 January to 29 July 1901, and later with the Peninsula Horse.
