New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1863 to 1865 (3478. John Lappin, 70th. Regt.) ‘A’ in surname very lightly impressed, contact marks, very fine £360-£400

Provenance: Jubilee Collection, Glendining’s, May 1992.

John Lappin attested for the 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot and served with them in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny (entitled to a no clasp Medal), and in New Zealand during the Maori Wars, where he was present at the actions at Waikato, Taranaki, and Rangawhia. He died of dysentery in Rawalpindi, India, on 6 April 1872.
