Thomas Linton was admitted to an Out-Pension at Chelsea Hospital on 16 March 1825, aged 47. Born at Burton, Staffordshire, a cordwainer by trade, he served in the 1st or King’s Dragoon Guards for 28 years, including 3 years 2 months as Corporal, 7 years as Sergeant, and 12 years 5 months as Troop Sergeant-Major. He served as Troop Sergeant-Major of No. 5 Troop at Waterloo, commanded by Major John Bringhurst, who was killed.
