M.M. London Gazette 23 July 1919.
The recommendation states: ‘Corporal Hall gallantly led his section against a machine gun nest at Landrecies on 23-24 October 1918.’

George Clarence Llewellyn Hall was born in Birmingham in 1899, and, following the outbreak of the Great War, attested for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He served with the 1st/8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 25 June 1915 (presumably having lied about his aged on enlistment), was promoted Corporal, and was awarded the Military Medal for his gallantry in charging an enemy machine gun nest at Landrecies in the final stages of the Great War. Following the cessation of hostilities, he re-enlisted in the Royal Artillery at Birmingham, and served with them during operations on the North West Frontier of India in 1930-31. He was discharged on 8 April 1942 with the rank of Lieutenant (Quartermaster).

Sold with copied Medal Index Card; medal roll extracts; and other research.

Note: Hall’s Medal Index Card states that his M.M., 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals, India General Service Medal, and L.S. & G.C. were all re-issued on 9 April 1943. The medals in this lot appear, both in the style of naming, and the overall condition, to be the original issues. His Croix de Guerre is unconfirmed.
