The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, C.I.E., Companion’s 2nd type breast badge, gold and enamel, with integral top gold brooch bar, in Garrard, London, case of issue; King’s Police Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (Reg. H. Brereton. C.I.E., Lt. Insp.-Gen., Ind. Pol. (Un. Prov.)) in fitted case of issue; Delhi Durbar 1903, silver, unnamed as issued, with integral top riband buckle, in fitted case of issue, minor edge nicks to last, otherwise extremely fine (3) £1,200-£1,600

Reginald Hugh Brereton was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, on 12 November 1861, and was educated at Cheltenham College and Balliol College, Oxford. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1880, and was appointed a Joint Magistrate in 1892; a Deputy Commissioner in 1895; a Magistrate and Collector in 1896; and Inspector-General of Police, United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in 1900. He retired in 1909, and for his services in India was created a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire and awarded the King’s Police Medal. He died on 26 February 1944.
