John Miles was born in Edinburgh, and resided at 5 Richmond Court. He initially served with the 5th Reserve Cavalry Regiment, prior to serving with the 6th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 2 October 1915. He was severely wounded 18 May 1915, and died of wounds at Home, aged only 18, 24 May 1916. Private Miles is buried in the Newington/Echo Bank Cemetery, Edinburgh.
