Reginald St George Lake was killed in action in France on 17 November 1916, and is buried in Martinpuich Cemetery, Pas de Calais.

The following obituary was published in the Regimental Chronicle, 1916-17:

‘Lieut. Reginald St George Lake (4th Bn) who was killed in action on 17 November 1916 was the second son of Mr Reginald J. Lake of Watford. Born in 1887, he was educated at Berkhamstead School and for a time under Articles as a Solicitor, but in 1907 entered Childs Bank. From 1906-8 he was a Lieutenant in the 4th Bedfordshire Regiment (Militia) and on the outbreak of War joined the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps. In September 1914 he obtained a commission as a Lieutenant in the New Army but failed to pass the medical examination; he was however gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 4th Bn. (T.F.) 9th March 1915 and joined the 1st/4th Bn. in France in June 1915. He was promoted temp Lieutenant 20 February 1916.’
