James McNaughton was born in Pitlochry, Perthshire. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Royal Highlanders on the Western Front. Private McNaughton died, 12 March 1915, and is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
